Cheating Dreams – What They Really Mean

327

“He was cheating on me in my dream!” Cheating dreams can invoke a very strong emotional response when you wake up from the dream. Most people can remember a dream when they woke up in a pile of sweat, furious at the person lying next to them.

Unbeknownst to your partner, you just had a dream that they were in the arms of another woman or man. If one spouse accuses the other of cheating because of a dream, it can cause a lot of problems in a relationship.

To understand why you have a cheating dream, it is important to interpret the dream in the context of your waking life. If your spouse is constantly flirting with other people around you, these dreams can indicate an untrustworthy partner.

Young man text messaging with young woman sleepingDreaming about cheating or being cheated on is one of the most commonly reported, and most disturbing dreams, for people in relationships.

These dreams can be so real and vivid that you can have all the feelings and emotions that you would have if your partner did cheat.

In some cases, these dreams turn out to be simple insecurities or fears within the dreamer. However, cheating dreams can also indicate an unfaithful partner in a relationship. As the dreamer, you are best equipped to uncover the hidden truth inside your dream. Foreshadowing Dreams about Cheating

When I was a child, I had a dream that foreshadowed my parents getting a divorce. One night I had a dream that my mom was being taken by a man that was connected to our family. When I woke up from this dream, I was visibly shaken and told my parents about it.

They both assured me that it was a nightmare, but little did I know my mom was having an affair at the time. This dream was so vivid and clear that I couldn’t get it out of my head. Three weeks after the dream, my dad found out that my mom was cheating on him, with the family friend I saw in my dream.

Cheating DreamThinking back to this memory, this dream was my subconscious mind trying to warn me of the impending disaster about to hit my family. Although my conscious mind did not sense any problem with my parent’s relationship as a child, my subconscious mind was reading all of the signals that my brain refused to acknowledge.

It was my subconscious mind that compiled all the hidden signs and portrayed them in a dream that revolved about my mom’s unhappiness in the marriage.

Whenever a dream about a cheating spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend turns out to be real, it often means you have a strong sixth sense of the things around you. Your unconscious mind is better at reading the subtle signs that your conscious mind has either overlooked or simply blocked out to avoid being hurt. Even though some people choose to remain ignorant of their cheating spouse in their waking mind, sometimes the subconscious will attempt to provide clues to infidelity.

An example of this is a wife that fails to notice that her husband is staying out longer after work. Although the husband could have displayed visible signs of infidelity, the wife’s conscious mind remained ignorant to any of these signs. To awaken the conscious mind, the wife could have a dream that her husband was in the arms of another woman.

Sometimes these cheating dreams occur to provide a warning of something that may happen in the future. Your dreams could be providing you clues that your relationship has grown stale and needs to be revived before it burns out.

Detect a Cheating Partner: If you suspect that your cheating dream might be telling you something about your partner, then I recommend this book called how to Catch a Cheat. I actually know someone that read the book and discovered her partner wasn’t cheating, which allowed their relationship to grow even stronger.

Being Cheated On

In most cases, cheating dreams represent our fears and insecurities that we have about ourselves. You could have issues with trust that is causing your subconscious mind to create a dream about your partner cheating. Some dreamers have deep insecurity and anxiety about themselves that are reflected in their dreams.

Dreaming that your partner is cheating on you, usually, represents some kind of anxiety or worry that you have about your personal feelings towards yourself. You could have anxiety over your physical appearance, or be worried about your future together.

When someone is cheating on you, it can also represent a lack of control in your life. If you are the type of person that likes to have everything planned, cheating dreams can disrupt your feeling of being in control. Cheating dreams can also represent your fear of failure on a project that you have been working on.

Cheating on Someone Else

When we cheat on someone in our dream the first thing we feel is guilt. Why would I do that? I love my partner?! Cheating on someone is just as emotional as being cheating on because of the strong feelings of guilt associated with the dream.

These feelings are amplified if you were experiencing pleasure and happiness in the dream. Dreaming about being a cheater can indicate a feeling of guilt in other areas in your life. There is another possibility that your conscious mind is entertaining thoughts of cheating and these are reflected in your dream state.

If a person is constantly thinking about cheating on their spouse or partner, chances are they might have a dream about it. Sometimes these dreams reveal the painful impact of cheating and allow the dreamer to experience the guilt without actually going through the motions.

Cheating dreams can represent self-fulfillment dreams of dreamers who are missing something in their lives. If your partner is not very affectionate, you might have a dream about cheating to satisfy your inner desire to be loved by someone.

Interpreting and Understanding Cheating Dreams

When trying to analyze a cheating dream it is important for you to look at the specific situations and circumstances that you encounter in the dream.

Is there a particular person that stands out in the dream?

You should always take note of the specific locations, people, objects and places in the dream. Remember that your conscious mind can influence your dream.

For example, if you are jealous of a coworker because of her good looks, this jealousy could be reflected in a dream of your spouse having an affair that same co-worker. Take note of any conscious thoughts that could influence your dream about your partner.

Is your dream a reflection of your insecurities and thoughts that you have in your waking life? Remember that most cheating dreams are not a reflection of reality, but are reflective of our insecurities. Although some dreams can offer an omen of truth, it is important to thoroughly analyze your dream before you come to the conclusion that your partner is cheating on you.

  1. I have the same reoccurring dream for the past 2weeks about my partner cheating on me, and I use don’t know what to do anymore because the dreams are of my partner cheating on me with someone I know or knew

  2. I have been with my fiancée for almost 3 years. Our relationship started out like any new relationship- go everywhere together, hang out with friends together, communicate all the time with each other, and a lot of love. For the past year everything started to get different. He started spending less time with me (we live together), he is always hanging with his friends (more often than with me), and he leaves the apartment with out a word of where he is headed. He stays out really late. Recently I have been having dreams that he is cheating on me with women (different woman each dream) in our building. The dreams involve him having sex and a secret relationship with the woman. FYI there are quite a few loose women in our building. These dreams have concerned me because he stays out so late, spends more time with his friends (which I do not get along with) in our building, and never says where he is going. Many times he ignores my calls and text messages. Which makes me believe that my dreams are showing me some truth. He has never cheated on me before (that I know of), but he hangs out with men that have cheated on their women and have told him I am no good for him (even though I treat him great and am the sole provider in our home). His friends put a lot of crap in his head. I have been cheated on in 99% of the relationships I have been in and I have a lot of insecurities. So, having a dream that he is cheating on me makes me feel really insecure and curious as to what he is doing when he is not home. Am I going nuts?

    • You are not going nuts, the relationship that you are having is pretty toxic IMO. I mean, he couldn’t be behaving more disrespectful than this if you ask me. It’s one thing to hang out with friends, it’s another thing to do it more than hang out with you and ignoring calls and texts. I’d say leave him in time if you can because the way your relationship is headed is pretty bad. Either do something about it – talk with him about it, or try to end it ASAP.

  3. I’m shook. I dreamt my real boyfriend was married and I was the other woman. His wife found out about us and his entire family was so pissed. He was leaving his wife for me but it didn’t feel right that everyone was against us (mostly me really). I kept locking the doors fearful the wife’s loved ones could come in and hurt me, but every time I’d run back to a door I’ve already locked it was suddenly unlocked again and slightly open.

The same night I dreamt I gave birth to a baby. After birth my family handed me a baby that was obviously too old to be a new born (definitely not mine). I got suspicious and snooped around till I found my mom and sister with really small twin girls. I confronted them and they said they thought I knew they were joking.

I don’t understand any of this

  4. I’m the sixth sense dreamer. I have many premonitions
My wife and I, after being together for 9 years, bought a house and moved in 2 years ago. Shortly after, I dreamt that she was cheating on me. I told her about the dream and she was very mad at me for having it and said she’d never cheat on me. She was quite adamant and mad.
Within 5 months of buying the house and my dream, she left me for another man she’d been seeing for the past 4 years.
I’ve since had a couple dreams where we get back together. However, I take those as warnings.

  5. I am in a relationship with a man I’ve known for four years. We’ve had ups and downs, and we were together last year, but it ended with him breaking up with me due to some conflicts with another man trying to get my attention. Over time, we are back together, and I really want things to work out with us. My boyfriend has a friend that is a woman, and she has put him through hell in the past. She is the first girl he fell in love with, and that hurts my subconscious a lot. My nightmares are about her going over to his house and spending the night, him bringing me home, but she has to sit in the front seat and I’m stuck in the back. I’ve had dreams of her bringing her friend over to his house and him not answering my calls. I’ve had four to five nightmares about him changing his mind and being with her over the span of five days. He is currently on vacation and hasn’t texted or called for days. I’m at my wits end with this, so this is my last resort.

    • When I am with him, I feel like the only girl in the entire world. He tells me that he only has eyes for me, and I’ve told him about these dreams, and he tries to reassure me about it. But it is hard when your boyfriend’s friend is a girl that the only reason they didn’t get together in the first place is because she friendzoned him. I trust him, but I don’t trust her, and these dreams are too real to me.

  6. So I’ve been dating my boyfriend for a little over 3 years now. We have had our issues and have had a few big break ups but we always end up fixing them and make things better. Well we both started our first semester of college at the same school and we hit another rough patch and broke up. We both lived on campus but in separate dorms halls.
There was a guy two doors down from me that I thought was cute but I never talked to him. But then second semester my crush faded away as my boyfriend and I fixed things again and me and that boy became friends. He was a really nice person but I was happy with my boyfriend, so my attraction was eventually completely gone after about a month into the second semester.
So now it’s summer and my boyfriend and I both work but one night we get into an argument because my boyfriend says he feels like we aren’t dating and that he doesn’t feel loved.I try to tell him that maybe it’s because we hadn’t seen each other in a couple of days but he still argues. That night I go to bed and end up having s dream about cheating on him.
I was dreaming about being back in my dorm moving everything out (on move out day) and I go back downstairs to our dining hall to get dinner and I see my friend (the one that lived two doors down from me) and I yell his name. I was going to leav later that night so I figured I’d give him a hug goodbye. I kinda hug him at a weird angle cause he had food in his hands but then he says “no no no, come here” & he turns his body so he could give me a “real” hug and as I’m pulling away he leans in and kisses me. It lasted about 2-3 seconds and it was nothing but purses lips. I pulled away & I just had a shocked face. Behind him I see a mutual friend of my boyfriend and I and he had his phone out as if he were recording or taking a picture. Then my friend just looks at me and says “what do we do now…?” And I didn’t say anything, I was covering my mouth and I was just slowly walking away in shock. In my head I told my self “I need to tell my boyfriend. I mean he kissed me he needs to know” but at the same time I was battling th thoughts of “no don’t tell him”

I hope this was enough background information and detail, please help!!!

  7. Drake Linton on

had one dream where there was a girl from my school, and she came up to kiss me, and I chose to. in the second dream, we just full on kissed. but I’m in a relationship with a girl right now. what does this mean

  8. DIANA MASON on

My fiance is constantly having lucid dreams about him walking in our room and finding me cheating on him. I dont play that crap. I love him more than anything. Females in his past have always ended up cheating on him. He does not believe i could love him and not end up cheating on him. He always says, give it time. You will cheat too. What do his dreams mean?

  9. Dreamed my sex partner was sleeping with my niece…. In real life they’ve known each other for years I haven’t been around her have no hard feelings….i don’t understand

  10. A few nights ago I had a really terrible dream that my boyfriend was breaking up with me because I was cheating on him and it was just him yelling at me and me crying (he never yells in waking life). I was really upset about it for the next few days and didn’t even want to think about it because it seemed so real. Last night I had a dream which I suppose was the prologue to that dream which was me being with one of my best guy friends and him trying to convince me to break up with me real boyfriend so we could be together. I feel really guilty and slightly worried to run into the guy because I feel so uncomfortable and guilty. I’m also kind of petrified if it means I’m interested in the guy and not my boyfriend.

  11. My cheating dream
I lived in a mansion with my husband. Our mutual friend Jonny (he’s a little bit more my friend then my husbands but in waking life I consider him my brother) called and asked us if he could crash at the mansion for a few nights. My husband says no. But I feel it’s not a big deal since we have such a big house. Jessie(husband) storms off to our room angrily. It’s early the sun hasn’t set yet. Jonny arrives we are in the basement. It’s finished, looks like a huge living room. Giant tv on the wall. We are sitting on the sofa. Talking idk what about. He kisses me, I like it a lot. We kiss harder but then I stop. Guilt pierces my soul like a knife. I walk away. I go to take a shower and cool off. I yell “if you need anything I’ll be upstairs.” He says “ before you go can you please help me make this tv work I’m trying to watch a movie” I come down. Wearing nothing but a rob. He’s naked laying on the sofa. I have to many feeling to describe. I don’t know what happens next. There’s not sex scene so I can’t say if there is or isn’t one. I’m walking up the basement steps. My husband greets me at the top with a very pissed off look. He yells I knew it. I feel guilt like poison through my veins. I say “idk what your talking about. I got him some pillows and blankets and then after I showered UPSTAIRS he asked me if I could put a movie on for him”. My mom appears she may have been here the entire time. She looks at me disappointed. He asks me what movie I put on. I think and I think so many weird nonsensical names pop into my head. I hear my moms voice telepathically telling me to please just say a name any name. I stay silent as they stair at me with anger, disappointment, and disbelief. I don’t know what to say or how to make this go away. I know what ever I say they aren’t going to believe me. I don’t even think I believe me. It goes blank from there. I wake up do a reality check to make sure I’m not dreaming anymore. I’m not. But the guilt still flows through me like poison. I look at my sleeping husband. Thanking god that it was all just a dream. But still feeling guilty enough to throw up. I lay back down attempting to fall back to sleep but scared of what may await me in the dream realm.

  15. I’ve had 2 dreams about my new boyfriend cheating on me with my best friend which happens to be his ex. My best friend and him dated about two years ago. She said it was okay to go out with him. The first dream I had was that we moved in together and I was at work and I came home and saw them in bed together. And last night I had a dream that my boyfriend and i and my best friends boyfriend were at a concert. My friends boyfriend went to the bathroom and my boyfriend didn’t know i was standing right there. He picked up my best friend and asked her if she wanted to be his again and she said yes. Later in the dream my boyfriend told me he loved me and i said no you don’t and he asked what i meant and i said i saw him and my best friend together and asked her to be yours again. He said it was just a joke. And then I woke up. I don’t know if i am having the dream because of my insecurities. Because tbh i think she is way prettier than me.

  18. I had a dream that i was at disneyland with my old school classmates and my boyfriend. Usually it’s just my boyfriend and i that go to disneyland but in my middle school days before i knew my current boyfriend i would go with my choir class. Anyways, i went off into disneyland with 2 of my girlfriends to go on rides and i didn’t see where my boyfriend went. My two friends and i tried to go on some rides but i didn’t have the right ticket to get on the rides, so then i ask my friends where andy my boyfriend is and they take me to him. I see him sitting down having a picnic with this girl charity in my class. He was talking to her closely. I knew at that moment he was cheating on me, he was talking about how she’s so pretty and how her jewelry was pretty as well. I started screaming crying throwing a fit punching him, I was a wreck. I felt like everything I worked for in this relationship was down the drain and in the dream he didn’t care he showed no sympathy and charity was just sitting there having a laughing smile on her face.

  19. I cheated on my boyfriend. I didn’t tell him. Then I started dreaming of him cheating on me. I wonder if it was just my insecurities because I cheated on him and I thought he might do the same to me. I had SEVERAL dreams about that
